Author Talks with Kevin Gerard!
Megan's Review of Book Two: Peril in the Corridors!
Kevin Gerard will come to your school or library with a wonderful presentation about Conor and his adventures in the Crossworlds. The author talk lasts about one hour. Mr. Gerard discusses how he came to be a writer, the craft of writing, and then after briefly querying the audience, he shows a ten minute "movie trailer" about the entire five book series. After the powerpoint movie, Mr. Gerard answers questions from the attendees. Each student or patron receives a promotional postcard bearing the titles of all five books and a link to Conor's website.
The comments below are from author talk attendees:
From an elementary school librarian in Del Mar, California.
Each book in Kevin Gerard’s captivating “Conor and the Crossworlds” series leaves you wanting more. When Kevin visited our elementary school he told our 4th and 5th graders how his characters came to life when he was about their age. Describing how the characters first came to him during a dream, he explained that Conor and the others seemed to appear right outside his bedroom window, like Peter Pan appeared to Wendy. In Kevin’s imagination these characters became part of his daydreams and, 25 years later, part of his adventure books. Kevin’s engaging visual displays and brief summaries of these characters kept our students on the edge of their seats the whole time and inspired many of them to become writers themselves.
In fact, the “Conor and the Crossworlds” series is so popular at Del Mar Heights Elementary School that the books never make it back to the shelf. When one student returns their copy another will check it out right away.
Kevin finished by telling the students about his Treasure Hunt; Kevin has buried five treasure chests with five different keys around the country. The clues to where the treasure chests are have appeared in the first three books and they will be followed by more clues online (http://www.conorandthecrossworlds.com/). Whoever finds the treasure chests keeps the keys and wins other prizes. Of course we are all highly anticipating his treasure hunt.
If you liked Harry Potter you will love Conor Jameson and this exciting series of fantasy adventures.
Hello from The only radio station in the world owned and operated by kids, WKID 96.7 FM, located in Clearwater, Florida. For years we were looking for an exciting book to read live on air to our listeners. All the books that we thought would be interesting to read on air turned out to be very confusing to our listening audience, but three years ago we received our first book from Kevin Gerard titled Conor and the Crossworlds. After receiving the book we thought it was just going to be another boring book, BUT NO! JUST THE OPPOSITE! This book was awesome!! Not only did we love it and were able to relate to Conor because he was our age, but our listeners really loved to hear us reading the story on air every night. They begged us not to stop reading it due to the great suspense of the story. Every night when we would stop reading for the night the phone would start ringing with listeners very upset and wanting to know what happens next, of course our response was "you will have to tune in tomorrow night." If we ever had a night that we were unable to broadcast we would receive hundreds of e-mails and phone calls. We just wanted to say thanks again for writing such a great, exciting story and we look forward for the next book.” – Adam and Eric – WKID 96.7, Clearwater, Florida

"I’m from the high school in Burlington, Vermont that you visited. I didn't really get a chance to properly thank you, so I'd like to do that now. Not only is your series, Conor and the Crossworlds, one of the most imaginative, brilliant and overall best fantasy reads ever, you've also inspired me to write more than I can ever express. Keep speaking at schools; you're very motivating, and I'm so grateful for your stories and kind words. Thank you!" – Matt – Burlington, Vermont

“In the book series of Conor and the Crossworlds, I loved the stories at the very beginning when I started reading them. I personally admire Conor because of his bravery and courage to put other people before himself, and I loved the fact that there are creatures that have powers that no person can ever imagine. When I started this series I was hooked from the first page and couldn't wait for the next book to come out. Now after three, I can't stop thinking about the next book to come out and try to imagine what could happen in the next book...” – Jacob – Norco, California
“I am so very impressed. I remember the darkness from the third book more than anything, although the second book had such cool fight scenes and new characters. For some reason this story is pure pleasure for me, I think because it was quite visual and exciting, but also very tender. The ending was absolutely amazing, it evoked all the feelings you would expect from an extremely well-written fantasy.” – Karen – Tierrasanta, California
“Hi, it's Ryan.
Love the books, but, I'm thinking you should make a movie.
I want to see what colors the places are, I want to see how big they are.
I can see the pictures; I just see them in black and white.
And I' m almost done with the second book.
I met you at the Clairemont branch Library 50th Celebration.
That's where we bought the first book.
Who won the key thing, or is it still going on?
Please reply…” – Ryan – San Diego, California
“The Conor and The Crossworlds books are great! Full of drama and adventure, it has everything a book worm needs to be satisfied with the book she/he devours! It’s a suspenseful adventure, waiting to pull you into the journey and complete it.” – Shannon – Oceanside, California
“I have been reading the series since Kevin came by my school. It was and will be full of emotion, exciting characters, and meaning. All the books have great plots, and I can barely wait for the next couple of books. Conor is a perfect mixture Harry Potter, Bobby Pendragon, and Percy Jackson.” – Wesley – Indio, California

The characters that you put in the book are amazing. I can actually imagine in a dream a giant cat taking me for a ride in the sky. You have made some really amazing books.” – IMS student – Riverside County, California
“I just love the Conor and the Crossworlds books! When I pick them up I
can't put them down! I feel like I'm in another world!” – Jocelyn – Manchester, New Hampshire
“I love the Conor and the Crossworlds books because they have a really good plot. I like how in an instant Conor’s life goes from ordinary to getting to experience being in an alternate world beyond imagination. When Conor starts gaining abilities from serving as a warrior for the Crossworlds creators, it makes me wish I could escape to an alternate world of my own and meet majestic cougars like Purugama. The third book “Surviving an Altered World” is my favorite because of the quest for the five keys. The plot for the third book was awesome and the scavenger hunt that the author did for the five keys that went across the United States was a lot of fun! That’s why I love the Conor and Crossworlds books. Not only that but I’ve always liked writing, thanks to this series I am inspired to write so much more!” – Jade – Lumberton, Mississippi

“Reading Conor and The Crossworlds is like watching a movie in your head, and not spending time on the T.V. so my parents don't get mad.” – Shannon – Oceanside, California
“When you came to my middle school you said you would give me a copy of your book free if I got mine published. I am proud to say that my book is 452 pages long and is on its way to 3 different publishers! I hope you are ready to hand over that book!” – Lucy – Desert Hot Springs, California
"I love these books because they are very adventurous. Every sentence traps me inside the book as if I am in it. I never want to stop reading these books. I just love them so much." – Joseph, La Jolla, California
“I would like to say that all three of your books were very well written and interesting, although the first one was our favorite. Even though Conor is the main character Purugama is our favorite character. One of our many favorite parts in all of the three books is when Purugama is fighting Drazian in the beginning of the first book. The first couple of pages in the first book got us hooked and they were all exciting and they made us want to read the whole series. Can't wait to read the next book.” – Ben & Tyler – Manchester, New Hampshire

From the Toll Titan Chronicle at Toll Middle School in Glendale, California
Now that the Harry Potter series is over, it's time to find a great new book series, and Kevin Gerard has the answer. His new book series, Conor and the Crossworlds, is possibly the next great teen book series.
It is about a boy, Conor, who is invited to the Crossworlds to fight alongside the Crossworld Champions, who are giant cats. Conor has big adventures, many problems, and some new friends, like a giant winged cougar.
The first two books, Breaking the Barrier and Peril in the Corridors, have already been released and are available at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and coldtreepress.com.
The next book, Surviving an Altered World, is coming soon, so be ready. The series includes two more fantastic books, but if you need more information, just go to Kevin Gerard's website - http://www.conorandthecrossworlds.com.
We were very fortunate as Kevin Gerard actually visited Toll Middle School on May 23, and talked to some of our students about his new series.
Mr. Gerard, who used to be a teacher, and is now a full time writer, discussed how he was inspired to write this book series. Then he told us a secret about some special keys.
He mentioned that the third book is about Conor's quest to find "the five keys of the creators," and Kevin Gerard actually plans to hide five keys around the country. Whoever finds even one of these keys will get a fantastic reward.
He hinted that he would hide one of these keys in San Diego, one in New Jersey, and one in Colorado. As for the other two keys, well, they are for us to figure out. He said, however, that the books would give us small hints of where the keys might be, so don't delay! Read the first two books, and be ready for the third installment of this fantastic series.
